In 1968 a meager camping program was born out of an old Boy Scout camp in Surry, Virginia. Since then a creative and impactful outdoors experience developed through the years on the shores of the James River. Summer after summer a wondrous legacy grew with each staffs' and campers' time at Chanco.
The "Spirit" of Chanco has gained momentum and the twenty year old staff members in 1968 are now in their sixties. The campers of the first summer are currently in their fifties. Chanco has served thousands of children and several hundred staff members through the years.
The Chanco Alumni Association is a long overdue organization of those lucky campers and staff who have experienced the humor, friendship, and spirituality of this unique camp. With the development of the Chanco Once web site (www.chancoonce.com) designed by Greg Willis, the collection of photos, stories, and contact information has begun.
Please join the Camp Chanco Alumni Association (CCAA) by giving your contact information in the 'contact us' page of this web site so we can help you to reconnect with your memories, long lost friends, and upcoming Chanco events. A small association fee is urged. It will help us fund Alumni events, send out an Alumni Smoke Signal, and a percentage will be added to the camper scholarship fund to help requesting children have a chance to attend camp.
